All Nvidia G84 and G86s Are BAD

July 16th, 2008 · 1 Comment

Back in Dec of 2007 I was experiencing NMI parity errors with my laptop.

It seemed to be after very intense graphic use and the cooling fans switching to high and low. It wouldn’t happen right away but it was getting to the point that it was happening too often that I wanted to do something about it.

It wasn’t your typical Windows blue screen but a hardware type blue screen. Numerous calls to Dell had every tech stumped. Apparently they had absolutely NO reports of this error in their database and I couldn’t convince them it was NOT an OS issue but a hardware issue. I finally got through to someone after repeatedly saying that this was being reported on the Internet in various forums and that it was likely a heat issue and likely with the GPU. I have a Nvidia Go7900 GS installed. Dell still wouldn’t admit it had anything to do with the GPU as they said that if it isn’t reported in their own database they couldn’t consider it.

They did in the end agree to swap the motherboard and everything else in this laptop EXCEPT the GPU. Well, guess what. The blue screens continued. I begged them to switch the GPU but they wouldn’t budge on it.

Perhaps this will convince them finally. But somehow I doubt it until it makes it officially into their database (and even then it will probably have a flag on it saying not to let customers know about it)!!!!!

The only good thing is these blue screens for some reason are very few. That is, I might get one every 3 or 4 weeks or so now instead of every day.

See Nvidia tries to cover up defective GPU’s and All Nvidia G84s and G86s are bad.
